Edna has been fascinated with the art of sound, theater and media all of her life, but her passion for it deepened when she moved to San Francisco in 2005. While working as a board operator and dj at renowned college/community radio station, KUSF 90.3 FM, she gained hands on experience in the field of sound production. By 2007, she became one of the main production members at KUSF, regularly producing spots for radio airplay.
(KUSF has since been sold to corporate interests and is now streaming online in exile. Edna continues to dj and produce spots for the Internet station.)
This experience earned her enough credit to begin sound designing straight out of school for professional theater companies. She has composed sound for shows such as:
‘For All the Babies Fathers’ by Jessica Heidt at Brava Theater (2008);
‘What’s in the Dark…Comes to Light’ at Climate Theater (2009) and ‘A Way Out’ at USF, (2011) by Michelle Maxson;
Flying Actor Studio showcases (2010) at Climate Theater and FAS;
‘DAA!’ by Michael Sommers;
‘Hunter’s Point’ by Christine Young at St. Boniface Church, through the Gubbio Project, (2011);
‘Alice Down the Rwong Wrabbit Whole’ by Edna Barron herself and Karen Anne Light at the Emerald Tablet, (2011).
Currently, Edna is creating the foley for the stop motion short film:
‘Children of Mongo‘ by her colleague, Carla Mealla.
In 2008, she was referred to QWOCMAP, an all-female queer organization set on inspiring women to pursue film-making.
She wrote, directed and edited her first short film, Passersby, by 2009 and it premiered at the Yin Energy (Swan Day) Festival in 2009, showing subsequently at the QWOCMAP film festival and at a Studio Gracia salon night in 2010.
She has been editing ever since.
Edna is also a sound technician, having worked numerous shows in San Francisco, including:
Blue Lake’s premiere of ‘It’s only Temporary/Orefistaia’ at Brava (2009);
USF’s Company show (class of ’09);
Circus Center ‘Pratfalls’ showcases (2010);
‘Giant Bones’ (2009) and ‘Edenites’ (2010) by Stuart Bousel;
etc.
